People want the pleasure without the pain. The hype without the history. Black declaration without the mystery; uncertainty of ancestors, the confusion that dwells in our people’s minds.
People want to dress in the streetwear but choose to abandon street life. Glamor without the glare. Rap, not hip hop. Fabricated lies encouraged by the media, not raw truth.
People covet the various textures of black hair oblivious to the controversy of hair in our community. Want to drive cars with “big rims” but escape police racial profiling. Want to be seen as “hood” without ever visiting the “hood.”
They want the culture without the color. The life; but refuse to accept the necessary death. Death to their comfortable way of living. Death to misconceptions about blacks. Death to ignorance.
